2009

VERTIGO was recorded following months of writing, rehearsing and pre-production work. This time, the band co-produced with Mark Stuart and Sheena Seer at M2. Johnny “More Drums” Trowbridge sang his heart out, whilst Richie “More Guitar” Beardsley drove the studio techs mad with his steaming Peavey 5150 stack. Meanwhile Craig “Less Hi-hat” Chapman flitted between studio and the leftovers of his home after his neighbours did their level best to raze both houses to the ground. Thankfully the solid work of Dave Deaville and JT laid down a huge foundation to build both a new house and a hot rocking album. Everyone added harmony vocals, mostly layered with more variation than on the previous album.

Guests Adrian Marx (Plain Jane, Bon Giovi) and Sue Willetts (Dante Fox) joined the guys in the studio to record duets with Johnny on “Shake What Your Mama Gave Ya” and “Last 2 Know” respectively. VERTIGO was officially released at a show with Dante Fox at the Yardbirds Club in Grimsby and an appearance at BoobAid also reminded the band that their songs and style of delivery reach far beyond the usual melodic rock niche.

Labels offers came, but the band chose to run their own show and so Black Cat Music was formed and registered. Distribution offers are just coming in as this goes to press and reviews are due in numerous magazine issues in early 2010.

New songs have already been written and whether they will make it to the next Tara’s Secret album we wait to see. Look out for Tara’s Secret on the bills of various festivals throughout the next 2 years and don’t forget to come over and say “hello.”

VERTIGO ANORAK TITBITS

Although VERTIGO has a big, low down production, the standard guitar tuning is still E-E with Richie using a drop D gadget for a couple of songs.

That big, low down sound also has few hidden EQ tricks up its sleeve. Unlike many albums recorded this way, VERTIGO also has some great middle EQ going on in the guitar tones, so if the modern boom ain’t your thing, add a bit more middle and treble, or if you have a CD player with set modes, try the POP option.

The real anoraks out there will already have played VERTIGO on headphones, with no need for a loudness button. The panning work by Sheena Seer is another hidden side to this album’s production.

Edison Hazel-Johns isn’t usually a cellist

and some might say he could also be The Stig from Top Gear

Does Johnny record Backwards Satanic Messages on “My Reward” ??? We’re guessing he says “Oi, Dingo Brain, playing CDs backwards can be harmful to your CD player,” but if you know otherwise, let us know......

The Last2Know keyboard part very closely resembles another Tara’s Secret song - answers on a postcard....

Richie changed the magnets in his pick ups to Alnico 2s for just one song - any guesses ?

Craig also used a Spear RT101 telecaster with Suhr pick ups for the Natural High and Vertigo rhythm tracks.

VERTIGO was fuelled by Coven Butty Shop roast pork and stuffing sarnies and Staffordshire Organic Cheese

The girl stood on top of the car on our 2006 album TTW, has now turned BAD and is running away from home on the VERTIGO cover. She is the Rock n Roll Beauty Queen

VERTIGO - the fear of falling from a great height, falling into love, falling out of love, falling from grace or just falling over on a Friday night...... ENJOY
